Nursted is a hamlet in the East Hampshire district of Hampshire, England. It can be found 1.8miles Southeast of Petersfield and sits directly on the Hampshire/ West Sussex border.
The closest village to Nursted is Buriton which is itself 2.5 miles from Petersfield.Buriton can be reached from Nursted by a narrow winding lane that is very picturesque, being in places deeply sunk between high banks and completely over-arched by trees. It descends to the east end of the village street.
Buriton is a picturesque, historic village surrounded by steep wooded downland hillsides. There is a duckpond by the Norman church of St. Mary's at the centre of the village.Until the late 19th century Buriton church was the 'mother' church of the area with Petersfield church being a 'daughter' church. The population of Buriton today is about 730.
The Hangers Way a 21 mile walk from Alton to Petersfield passes through the Buriton close to the pond and the nearby Queen Elizabeth Country Park offers excellent walking opportunities within its fourteen hundred acres of downland and woodlands.
The South Downs Way is a long distance footpath and bridleway that begins in Winchester and follows an undulating well maintained and signposted route to Eastbourne.Buriton is near The South Downs Way and has several footpaths feeding into it from the village.Much of the route is surprisingly isolated and quiet considering the density of the population in south-east England. It can be walked in about a week and is closed to motorised traffic.
The market town of Petersfield is 17 miles from Portsmouth, has its own railway station that is on the main Portsmouth to Waterloo line. The town is situated on the northern slopes of The Southdowns and is within an area of outstanding natural beauty.
A Farmers market is held on the first Sunday of every month with an additional regular market held every Wednesday and Saturday.
In petersfield there is also a museum and the Flora Twort Gallery.
